Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pre-made pie crust or you can make your own for added flavor
- 2 cups of fresh spinach, washed and chopped
- 1 cup of shredded cheese, either cheddar or Swiss will do
- 3 large eggs, preferably organic
- 1 cup of heavy cream for that rich and creamy texture
- 1 teaspoon of salt to enhance flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper for a dash of spice
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional, but it adds warmth)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter for sautéing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and fit the pie crust into a tart pan, trimming excess dough.
- Blind bake the crust for about 10 minutes until golden, then set aside to cool.
- Sauté the chopped spinach in olive oil or butter for 2-3 minutes until wilted, then cool.
- In a bowl, mix sautéed spinach with shredded cheese.
- Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg, then fold in the spinach mixture.
- Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and set, then let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
- Freezing individual slices is possible for longer storage—just reheat in the oven.
