Description

This salmon cake recipe is a delightful and versatile dish perfect as an appetizer, light meal, or snack. Made with fresh, canned, or leftover salmon, breadcrumbs, and flavorful seasonings, these golden salmon cakes are a healthy and delicious way to enjoy omega-3 fatty acids. Enjoy them fried or baked to crispy perfection!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of cooked salmon (fresh, canned, or leftover)
  • 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 1/4 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying or baking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon Mixture: In a large bowl, flake the cooked salmon with a fork, removing any bones or skin. Add the breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, beaten egg, dill, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until well combined, being careful not to overmix.
  2. Form the Salmon Cakes: Take about 1/4 cup of the salmon mixture and form it into a patty. Place the formed cakes on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Cooking the Salmon Cakes: For frying, heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Gently place the salmon cakes in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. For baking, preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Place the salmon cakes on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  4. Serving Your Salmon Cakes: Remove the cooked salmon cakes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately and enjoy hot or warm.

Notes

  • Don’t Overmix: Overmixing can result in tough cakes. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill Before Cooking: Chilling the salmon cakes in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before cooking helps them hold their shape better.
  • Use Fresh Herbs: Fresh dill and parsley add a vibrant flavor to the salmon cakes.
  • Adjust Seasonings: Taste the mixture before forming the cakes and adjust seasonings as needed.
  • Consider Binders: If the mixture seems too wet, add more breadcrumbs. If it’s too dry, add a little more mayonnaise.
