Quick Sourdough Discard Garlic Knots

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 garlic knots 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Transform your sourdough discard into these quick and flavorful garlic knots. Soft, fluffy, and brushed with a savory garlic butter, these knots are the perfect accompaniment to any meal or enjoyed as a tasty snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (for garlic butter)
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough discard, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a rope approximately 6 inches long and tie into a knot.
  5. Place the knots onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the knots are golden brown.
  7. While the knots are baking, prepare the garlic butter by combining the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl.
  8. Once the knots are done baking, remove them from the oven and immediately brush them with the garlic butter.
  9. Optional: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the warm knots for added flavor.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the unsalted butter with additional olive oil.
  • These garlic knots are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven before serving.
  • Feel free to add other herbs like oregano or basil to the garlic butter for a different flavor profile.
