  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp butter (for topping)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preparing the Casserole:

  1. Lightly grease a small baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Cut bread into thick slices or cubes and arrange in the baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing gently to help absorption.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours).

Baking the Casserole:
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
7. Dot small pieces of butter over the top.
8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and set.
