Description

Honey garlic chicken skewers are a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and smoky flavors. Marinated in a rich honey garlic sauce and grilled to perfection, these skewers make for an easy and delicious meal, ideal for barbecues, weeknight dinners, or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade – In a bowl, mix honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  2. Marinate the Chicken – Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces and toss in the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.
  3. Preheat the Grill or Oven – Set the grill to medium-high heat or preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Assemble the Skewers – Thread marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.
  5. Grill or Bake:
    • Grilling: Cook for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until cooked through.
    • Baking: Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Glaze and Garnish – Brush with extra marinade during cooking, then garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Spicy Version – Add more red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha.
  • Citrus Twist – Use orange juice instead of lemon juice for a fruity flavor.
  • Vegetable Skewers – Add bell peppers, onions, or pineapple chunks for extra flavor.
  • Oven-Broiled – Broil for the last 2-3 minutes for a caramelized glaze.
  • Teriyaki-Style – Add a splash of teriyaki sauce to the marinade.
