  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a large bowl, beat the butter until smooth and creamy.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating on low speed until combined.
  11. Add the milk (or cream) and vanilla extract, and beat on high speed until light and fluffy.
  12. Tint the frosting with blue food coloring (or your preferred color) until you reach the desired shade.
  13. Place one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
  14. Spread a generous layer of frosting over the top.
  15. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining buttercream.
  16. Decorate with baby-themed decorations such as fondant cutouts, edible pearls, or sprinkles. Consider using a piping bag to create decorative borders or patterns.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
  • Don’t overmix the batter, as this can result in a tough cake.
  • Level the cake layers with a serrated knife for a more even stack.
  • Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before frosting for easier handling.
  • Get creative with decorations – consider the baby’s gender or the shower’s theme.
