Description

Soft, buttery, and packed with garlic and herbs, these herb & garlic swirl rolls are a delicious addition to any meal. Perfect for pasta, soups, or as a gourmet side dish!


Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • 1 cup warm water or milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, thyme, or basil), chopped
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

. Activate the Yeast

  • In a bowl, mix warm water or milk with sugar and yeast.
  • Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy (if using instant yeast, skip this step).

2. Prepare the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture and melted butter.
  • Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms (about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes in a stand mixer).

3. First Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

4. Make the Herb & Garlic Butter

  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh herbs, and a pinch of salt.

5. Roll and Fill

  • Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Spread the herb & garlic butter evenly over the dough.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.

6. Shape the Rolls

  • Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the longer edge.
  • Slice into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  • Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.

7. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the tops with egg wash or melted butter.
  • Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown.

8. Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove from the oven and brush with extra herb butter.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

  • Cheesy Swirl Rolls: Add shredded mozzarella or cheddar before rolling.
  • Spicy Garlic Rolls: Mix in red pepper flakes for a heat kick.
