- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 cup warm water or milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast or instant yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, thyme, or basil), chopped
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
. Activate the Yeast
- In a bowl, mix warm water or milk with sugar and yeast.
- Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy (if using instant yeast, skip this step).
2. Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and melted butter.
- Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms (about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes in a stand mixer).
3. First Rise
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4. Make the Herb & Garlic Butter
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh herbs, and a pinch of salt.
5. Roll and Fill
- Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the herb & garlic butter evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
6. Shape the Rolls
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the longer edge.
- Slice into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
7. Bake
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops with egg wash or melted butter.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown.
8. Serve and Enjoy
- Remove from the oven and brush with extra herb butter.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
