Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the yeast mixture into the flour along with melted butter or oil and milk. Mix until a rough dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
  6. Shape the Loaf: Punch down the dough to release air bubbles, then shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Second Rise: Cover again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it puffs up.
  8. Bake the Bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes until it turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
