Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breasts or thighs (boneless and skinless)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Green onions (for garnish, optional)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Cut the chicken into 1-inch pieces and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Make the Batter:

    • Mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add eggs and soy sauce, whisking until smooth and thick.
  3. Fry the Chicken:

    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Dip chicken pieces into the batter and fry in batches for 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce:

    • Combine honey, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and soy sauce in a small saucepan. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Add sesame oil if desired.
  5. Toss the Chicken in the Sauce:

    • Place the cooked chicken back into the skillet, pour the sauce over it, and toss to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes to allow the sauce to absorb.
  6. Serve:

    • Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with rice or stir-fried vegetables.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven for best results.
  • Customizations: Add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce for a spicy kick. Use chicken thighs for juicier meat.
