Description

Crispy cauliflower is a crunchy, flavorful dish that can be baked, air-fried, or deep-fried. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish, this easy recipe is a healthier alternative to traditional fried foods.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cauliflower (cut into bite-sized florets)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour or chickpea flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cauliflower

  • Wash and cut the cauliflower into bite-sized florets.
  • Pat dry to help the batter stick better.

2. Make the Batter

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Slowly add milk, whisking until a smooth batter forms.

3. Coat the Cauliflower

  • Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring an even coating.
  • Let excess batter drip off.

4. Add Crunch

  • Roll the battered florets in panko breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese (if using) for an extra crispy texture.

5. Cooking Options

Baking:

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the coated cauliflower in a single layer.
  • Lightly spray with olive oil and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Air Frying:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the florets in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Cook for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crispiness.

Deep Frying:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the cauliflower in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels.

6. Serve

  • Let the crispy cauliflower cool slightly before serving.
  • Pair it with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy sriracha mayo.

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the batter.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use chickpea flour or rice flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Cheesy Twist: Mix grated cheddar or mozzarella into the batter.
