Indulge in the whimsical world of baking with our delightful cotton candy cake recipe! This fun and fluffy treat captures the nostalgic sweetness of cotton candy in a cake that’s perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or just a sweet escape.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons cotton candy flavoring
  • Pink food coloring (optional)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2–4 tablespoons milk
  • Cotton candy
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour cake pans, line bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened butter and milk; mix on low until combined, then medium for 2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in cotton candy flavoring and pink food coloring (if using).
  4. Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a wooden skewer comes out clean.
  5. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Beat softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar on low speed.
  7. Add vanilla extract and milk, one tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency. Beat on high for 2-3 minutes until light and airy.
  8. Level cooled cakes with a serrated knife if needed. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread with frosting.
  9. Place the second layer on top, frost entire cake.Gently press cotton candy around the top edge of the cake. Add sprinkles if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Don’t Overbake: Overbaking can result in a dry cake. Check for doneness with a wooden skewer.
  • Cool Completely: Make sure the cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Flavoring: Use high-quality cotton candy flavoring for the best taste.
  • Cotton Candy Topping: Add the cotton candy just before serving, as it will dissolve over time due to the moisture in the frosting.
  • Experiment: Feel free to add a layer of cotton candy-flavored buttercream between the cake layers for an extra burst of flavor.
