Description

Indulge in a whimsical Classic Cotton Candy Cake! This easy recipe combines the fluffy sweetness of cotton candy with a moist cake, perfect for birthdays or any celebration. Follow our step-by-step guide for a nostalgic and irresistibly delicious treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring
  • Pink and blue food coloring (optional)

For the Cotton Candy Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring
  • Pink and blue food coloring (optional)
  • Cotton candy for decoration
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened butter and milk. Mix until just combined.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in cotton candy flavoring. Divide batter and tint pink and blue if desired.
  4. Pour batter evenly into prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While cakes cool, prepare frosting. Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until smooth. Stir in cotton candy flavoring. Tint pink and blue if desired.
  7. Once cakes are completely cool, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of cotton candy frosting on top.
  8. Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting. Frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
  9. Decorate with cotton candy and sprinkles.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cotton candy flavoring for best taste.
  • Don’t overbake the cakes; they should be moist and tender.
  • Ensure cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Get creative with decorations! Use different colors of cotton candy and sprinkles.
  • Add a layer of cotton candy between cake layers for an extra touch.
