Description

Creamy and comforting Chicken Stroganoff is an easy, family-friendly dish featuring tender chicken in a rich, savory sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, this recipe pairs beautifully with rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Sauté the Chicken: Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Cook the Vegetables: In the same pan, sauté onions until soft. Add garlic and mushrooms, cooking until mushrooms are tender.
  4. Make the Sauce: Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir. Gradually add chicken broth, then mix in Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard.
  5. Add Creamy Elements: Reduce heat to low and stir in sour cream and heavy cream until smooth.
  6. Combine and Simmer: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, stirring to coat. Let simmer until heated through.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Mushroom-Free: Substitute mushrooms with bell peppers or zucchini.
  • Lighter Option: Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
  • Gluten-Free: Replace flour with cornstarch.
  • Dairy-Free: Use coconut cream and dairy-free sour cream.
  • Keto-Friendly: Serve over cauliflower rice and use xanthan gum instead of flour.
