  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

Chicken Parmesan Sloppy Joes are a quick and flavorful twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring ground chicken simmered in a rich tomato sauce, topped with gooey mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and served on a toasted bun. Perfect for busy weeknights!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil or parsley, chopped
  • 46 hamburger buns
  • 2 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  1. Cook the Chicken: Add ground chicken to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until fully browned.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the mixture. Stir until melted and combined.
  4. Toast the Buns: In a separate pan, melt butter and toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the chicken mixture onto the toasted buns. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley for added flavor.
  6. Serve Immediately: Enjoy your Chicken Parmesan Sloppy Joes hot, paired with a side salad or crispy fries

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add diced jalapeños or extra red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Low-Carb Option: Serve the mixture over zucchini noodles or inside lettuce wraps.
  • Different Cheeses: Swap mozzarella for provolone or fontina for a richer taste.
  • Vegetarian Twist: Replace chicken with lentils or finely chopped mushrooms.
  • Baked Version: Assemble the sandwiches in a baking dish, top with extra cheese, and broil for a crispy, cheesy finish.
